Developing an AI platform that saves law firms up to 75% of document review time

Executive summary

Challenge: The manual verification of complex legal documents for capital markets transactions was time-consuming, inefficient, and causing unnecessary client friction.

Approach: We helped Verifi build a scalable AI platform with auto-annotation, AI-augmented search, and version control to streamline the verification process.

Result: The platform allows law firms to reduce the time and effort it takes to complete the verification, saving them up to 75% of their time.

About the client

Verifi is a UK-based legal-tech startup specialising in AI-assisted document verification. Their mission is to help organisations build trusted, valuable output – efficiently, consistently, and with integrity.

The platform streamlines the review of critical materials, such as offer documents, prospectuses, circulars, and marketing brochures, particularly in high-stakes environments like equity capital markets.

Business challenge

In equity capital markets, verifying documents for accuracy is a meticulous and highly regulated process.

Offer documents, prospectuses, circulars, and marketing materials must all be checked against reliable and up-to-date supporting evidence.

Traditionally, the work is done manually by junior lawyers and paralegals, supervised by senior team members, often under severe time pressure.

This process can be slow, repetitive, and, with some documents over 200 pages, it requires consistent attention to detail. The task is made even more complex as any change in a principal document can trigger cascading updates throughout verification notes.

It also requires frequent input from clients and advisors, making collaboration challenging. In large transactions, estimating the time required for this activity is difficult – often resulting in significant write-offs.

Verifi wanted to change that, by developing a solution that would make verification faster, smarter, and more collaborative, while maintaining full legal integrity.

Proof of Concept

To test their idea, Verifi approached us with a clear vision: an AI-driven tool that could augment most manual steps of the verification process.

Our collaboration started with discovery workshops to understand the workflow and define key functionalities.

After that, within just three months, we delivered a working demo that allowed legal professionals to annotate and verify documents using Machine Learning, demonstrating its value to both stakeholders and investors.

Delivering results

After the successful PoC, we worked with Verifi to build the fully enterprise-ready platform. The solution now augments key steps of the process and supports legal teams throughout the verification end-to-end workflow.

Development followed an iterative, experiment-driven approach, starting with a strong AI foundation, which was gradually expanded with enterprise features, scalability, and robust compliance layers.

Our engineers thrived in this experimental style of work, contributing to a rapid cycle of testing, feedback, and continuous improvement that helped bring the platform to production maturity.

Key features:

  • Auto-Annotation automatically identifies statements requiring verification. This enables a document to be fully vectorised, and reliably identifies which sentences and sections are facts, suppositions, or procedural items.
  • Semantic Search: going beyond traditional keyword search, this function identifies relevant evidence based on the meaning and context of the statement. It searches both secure internal sources and the web for authoritative support, saving time, improving accuracy, and minimising manual effort.
  • Human-in-the-Loop Controls: while the tool automates core tasks, final decisions remain firmly in the hands of legal professionals. Users can review each suggestion, accept, adjust or skip as needed. This ensures full oversight and gives teams confidence in every outcome.
  • Version Control tracks changes in principal documents and transfers annotations between versions, avoiding the need to redo verification work from scratch every time a document is updated.
  • Collaboration Tools allow teams, clients, and advisors to assign tasks, monitor progress, and communicate, all within a secure platform.

Security and compliance

Given the highly sensitive nature of legal verification, the platform was built with security at its core. It is hosted on Microsoft Azure and supports both multi-tenant and single-tenant configurations.

For clients requiring full isolation, a dedicated single-tenant environment can be deployed, with options like IP whitelisting or VPN access to limit entry into the ecosystem.

The system follows a zero-trust model: no user or device is trusted by default, and all data is encrypted both in transit and at rest. Even Verifi’s support engineers with database access cannot read confidential content.

This setup ensures the platform meets the strictest security, compliance, and infrastructure standards expected by law firms and their clients.

Main benefits of our partnership

  • Initial annotation can be completed in minutes rather than hours.
  • The platform saves legal teams up to 75% of their time.
  • Removed a significant level of manual document and web searching, and ensured consistency across document versions.
  • Enabled secure and transparent collaboration between law firms, clients, and advisors.
  • Helped Verifi bring a complex legal tech product from idea to production.
